About
Here are the things that keep me up at night:
- Single-player strategy games (e.g. Anno, Endless Space 2, Frostpunk, Warhammer 40K DoW)
- Having too much matcha/black tea during the day
- Kids with ill-timed nap schedule
- The Operating System that drives biological systems
That last idea motivates me to continue persisting in the intersection between biology and computer science.
Because most of my work revolves around
recalcitrant/not-often-cured cancer types,
I often find myself asking if my research is making any meaningful difference to the patients I'm supposed to serve.
That probably just means that the time is ripe for another "jump in overall survival" moment like when chemotherapy came out,
radiotherapy got better, or immunotherapy started producing
durable benefit in once-terminal
cancer patients. I had the opportunity while at Stanford to attend a lecture by the late
Dr. Saul Rosenberg,
who had helped discover the chemotherapy regiment that led to an effective cure for almost all Hodgkin's lymphoma patients.
I hope that stories like his would continue to emerge around the world, and God willing, in my life.
For now, I am working to coalesce the two passions of mine—
curing more patients
and
understanding the biological operating system—into a lifetime of work that would be pleasing to God.
If any of my passions resonates with you, I'd love to connect and learn more your take on it, too.
